LATINA EMPOWERMENT & DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
LEAD 2019 Theme: "Leaving A Legacy"
The LEAD 2018 Conference took place on February 2nd and 3rd, 2018 with over 300 attendees from schools all over the country, including, but not limited to: Bard College, Barnard College, Bates College, Columbia University, Cornell University, Duke University, Princeton University, Swarthmore College, Wellesley College, Wesleyan University, Yale University, and many others.
Those who attended LEAD were able to participate in panels that ranged from Media and Communications to STEM and many more, including Business and Academia. They also had the opportunity to listen and learn from our keynote speakers Alejandra Campoverdi, Lorella Praeli, and Eliana Murillo.
Many of these attendees expressed that they left LEAD feeling a sense of belonging. They felt empowered to overcome whatever barriers might come their way, and renewed pride of their Latinidad. They acknowledged how special it was to be in a room with other individuals who shared similar experiences and who they felt comfortable talking and interacting with.
We hope that everyone left LEAD 2018 with the belief that one’s Latinidad does not hold them back, but rather gives them a unique perspective which allows them to leave a greater impact in the world. We also hope to take these positive experience to LEAD 2019 while also making sure that we grow in representation and inclusion of anyone who identifies as Latina. We look forward to seeing many of our attendees again at next year’s conference!
